Floral Park Youth Council

The Floral Park Youth Council is an organization of youth involvement, staffed completely by volunteers. Established in 1990    it has served as an alternative experience for children other than organized sports.

Structurally the Council functions by committee, and each committee lead by a director. Each Director is asked to chair one event a year which equates to 1.5 events per month. The events are dances with DJ's, trips to different destinations of interest to the children. Ski trips during the winter. Breakfast with Santa, Easter Egg Hunt, American Girl Doll Tea, Vintage Clothes fashion show and other activities of this nature. As part of our community involvement the Council sponsors and coordinates a Job Line for teens who are looking for odd jobs and seniors who need jobs done around the home, errands to be run, leaves raked or snow shoveling.

The Youth Council Center we run an evening recreation program broken down by age groups. On Saturday evening the center opens at 4:00 P.M. for session one for children in grades one thru three. Session two begins at 6:00 P.M. for grades four thru six.  During these hours the children use the gym to play volleyball, basketball, football, dodge ball and the game room for viewing television, playing video games, pool or using the computer lab. Additionally the Youth Council runs clinics and organized programs in volleyball, bowling softball pitching and batting, and field hockey.
